Bernice Musu Portelli is a professional Maltese violinist with over 20 years of performance experience. Her passion for music began at a young age and has since developed into a diverse and fulfilling career spanning performance, collaboration, and education.

Bernice has performed at a wide range of events, from intimate wedding ceremonies to large-scale productions, including appearances at the Malta Eurovision Song Contest. She has collaborated with distinguished ensembles such as the String Quartet in Hillon and performed with leading orchestras, including the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra. Among her career highlights is her participation in a video recording alongside world-renowned tenor Andrea Bocelli, accompanied by the Mediterranean Orchestra.

In addition to concert and event performances, Bernice is deeply committed to using music as a means of connection and wellbeing. She has regularly performed in retirement homes, including dementia wards, bringing comfort and joy to elderly residents through live violin music.

Alongside her performance career, Bernice is a dedicated music educator who believes strongly in the transformative power of music. Her teaching philosophy is inclusive and student-centred, welcoming learners of all ages and abilities. She has extensive experience working with students with learning differences, including Dyslexia and Autism, and is known for her patient, supportive, and encouraging approach.

 

Bernice holds a Licentiate Diploma in the Theory of Music and an Associate Diploma in Music Performance from Trinity College London, as well as a Diploma in the Theory of Music from the London College of Music. She is an accredited member of the Music Teachers’ Association of New South Wales and is actively involved as a performer with several Australian orchestras, including the Australian Christian Orchestra, Ryde-Hunters Hill Symphony Orchestra, Lake Macquarie Philharmonic Orchestra, and The Symphony Central Coast.
